Pictures from a day trip to Vladimir and Suzdal

Vladimir was once the main Russian city and seat to the princes. The city suffered at the hands of the Mongols and eventually

Moscow gained predominance at the expense of Vladimir and SUzdal and other Russian cities.

The churches in Vladimir are some of the oldest and show the influence of Byzantium. The domes are similar to those on a Greek church.

Vladimir

We then left Suzdal and headed on to Vladimir. Once the capitol of Russia it was destroyed by the mongols in 13th Centtury

Since then it has become a backwater politically. Lots of factories and some fine churches.
